Everything you need to know about KIRK Wireless System

 1)         What does DECT stands for? And where was it originated?

DECT was originally known as Digital European Cordless Telecommunication but had changed to Digital Enhanced Cordless           Telecommunication to reflect global acceptance and is originated from Europe.

 2)         What is the difference between traditional analogue cordless and DECT digital cordless system?

There are many differences. One of the biggest limitations of traditional cordless phones is that users are constrained by the coverage area offered by analogue cordless phone. Within buildings, this may be between 25 to 50 metres for most analogue cordless phones. While it is acceptable for most domestic users, this coverage is usually inadequate for commercial users in multi - storey buildings, warehouses, factories, hospitals, construction sites …..etc.

Another constraint facing traditional cordless phone user is that most of theses phones only support a single handset. Once again, this is often impractical on large commercial sites and as a result, many of these users have turned to using mobile phones onsite which has incurred considerable higher expenses.

 3)         What is the difference between DECT & GSM cordless system?

DECT cordless system is designed for private use i.e. in - house operation and GSM are for public usage.

 4)         What frequency does it used?

The allocated frequency spectrum for DECT is 1.880 to 1.900 GHz as compared to GSM mobile which is using the frequency of 1.900 GHz.

 5)         Are there many users of DECT wireless?

DECT is recognized as the leading digital cordless technology in the world for wireless PABX applications and over 100 millions users of DECT products have already been sold worldwide.

More than 120 countries have allocated this frequency spectrum of 1. 880 to 1.900 GHz to DECT.

 6)         What is DECT GAP compliance?

It means that DECT handsets made by other manufacturers can be integrated into any DECT systems and which is like the normal single line telephone sets that can be used in any other brands of KTS/PABX equipment. However, there will be a limitation of certain service features available and also take note that some models are not fully compliant of DECT GAP and therefore, it is advisable to test them prior to commitment.

 7)         Who is KIRK Telecom A/S? And how long has the company been established?

KIRK Telecom A/S is a leading Danish telecommunication company who specializes in design, develop, manufacture and OEM to others on its product and the company was established in the year of 1892 and has a history background of telecommunications of more than 120 years.

 8)         How many models does KIRK Telecom manufacture for medium size & large offices or factories?

There are two (2) models of wireless systems as appended below:

System z 500 i.e. a single cell base station for the connection to 8 analogues extensions & 8 cordless handsets to any Key - telephone or PABX system

System z 1500 is a Multi cells system, adjunct to any KTS/PABX system up   to a maximum of 32 base stations 96 repeaters and 128 cordless handsets.

NB:- System z 1500 has 3 versions of interface , i.e. Analogue , ISDN PRI ( Primary Rate Interface of 30B + D and the latest of IP Interface

 9)         What are the differences between the two (2) models?

 9.1)      System z 500

A single cell base system, up to 6 wireless repeaters can be logged onto the Base station, dramatically expanding the required coverage areas. Being wireless means no telephone cabling is required to the repeaters (needs only local AC power) except for the cabling from the KTS/PABX equipment to the base station. This makes installing of wireless repeaters extremely simple, cost effective as moving cordless repeaters to new locations. With the aid of an optional external directional, a cordless repeater may be located up to 1 KM i.e. line of sight from the base.

By providing overlapping areas of coverage between base station and repeaters, handover from zone to zone, the system acts like a mini mobile phone network. Conversations are transferred seamlessly from cell to cell as users move anywhere within the coverage areas.

 9.2)      System z 1500

A multi cell system, also attached to any phone system providing tremendous functionality to users who require a cordless solution to complement their existing fixed extensions. It caters for a maximum of 32 base stations, 96 repeaters and 128 wireless handsets.

 10)       What is the function of a base station?

The function of a Base station is to transmit radio signal in a given area and this applies to the repeaters as well.

 11)       What is the range of base station system?

The range or area of coverage of a base station is between 50 to 150 metres vertically and horizontally. However, this is subjective to the construction of building materials and the surroundings and it can extend the coverage area to a larger site with the use of additional base and repeaters. The repeater has the similar coverage area as a base station except that it supports for two (2) traffic channels.

 12)       How many simultaneous traffic channels are available for the base station & repeater?

There are six (6) simultaneous traffic channels in the Single base station i.e. System z 500 and for the System z 1500 base station and repeater , four (4) and two (2) traffic channels are available respectively.

 13)       Why is the repeater caters for 2 traffic channel and not 4 traffic channels similar to the base station?

The repeater is designed to extend the coverage area of a base station and not increasing the traffic channel. The usage of repeater is to cater for low traffic density and also for certain area where it is difficult to install the cable.

  14)      What would happen if a specific department has more users and four (4) traffic channels are insufficient?

Well, you can install additional base stations in that specified department in the event of high traffic density area. However, a maximum of three (3) base stations are allowed to be installed side by side to cater for 12 traffic channels and anything above will create hotspots. Similarly, the user can install 2 repeaters side by side, the 3rd repeater has to be installed 25 meters away from these 2 repeaters to avoid hotspot situation.

 15)       How many cordless handsets can be used simultaneously at any one time within the base station and repeater?

Four (4) and two (2) cordless handsets can be used simultaneously within the coverage area of the    base station and repeater respectively as all the cordless handsets are being programmed parallel to fixed line extensions. Therefore, if you were to use the fixed line phone to make or receive calls then the traffic channel will not be occupied.

 16)       What type of cabling required for the base station?

System z 500 - A 10 pairs cabling between the KTS/PABX equipment to the base station. This will cater for a maximum of 8 analogue extensions and 8 wireless handsets.

System 1500 -  A 2 pairs of twisted cable from z 1500 CCFP ( i.e. Main Unit ) to the base station and only 2 wires are used and the other 2 wires are for spare in case the user wants additional base stations in the future.

 17)       What is needed prior to the installation of this wireless system?

Site survey is required prior to the installation of every site as each site is different from one another due to the unknown construction of building materials  and its surroundings.

 18)       How do you conduct a site survey?

We need to use the deployment kit on site to physically check and test the radio signal of the coverage areas as required by the prospective customer. The test covers the signal quality and also the Radio Signal Strength Indication (RSSI), the numbers of base stations and repeaters if needed.

 19)       What is the ideal situation?

The ideal situation is to have all the office or factory areas to be covered to enable wireless users    to communicate within and subsequently, add on additional handsets to have more users in the future.

 20)       Why does my office need the wireless system as we already have the telephone system for our requirement?

Save money every day and all year round

If, on an average, you have to return calls to two people every working day, this means that you are making around 400 return calls a year, assuming that your office works on a 5 -days week.

If you multiply this figure by the number of key personnel working for the company who have a similar numbers of external contacts, you can see just how many telephone calls you can save in the course of a year. Moreover, some of the return calls may well be made to hand phones, out-station or oversea contacts and this can be quite costly. A wireless telephone system from KIRK Telecom will save you the cost of all these return calls. As the saying goes " A Penny Saved is A Penny Gained"

Free internal telephone calls & outside calls are based on fixed phone rate

With a cordless telephone system, you pay normal telephone rates for external calls and all internal calls are free of charge. This translates into large savings as it eliminates the need for employees to talk to each other using their GSM telephones.

 21)       Do we need to change our existing telephone system?

The answer is No! KIRK Wireless system is unique and is an adjunct system to your existing KTS/PABX equipment. There will not be any additional PABX hardware unless you need additional extension lines and the new wireless handsets has the same number as the fixed phones.

The KIRK system can also function without the cabling for the users and this means that the users are completely wireless and mobile with only the cordless handset to use i.e. no fixed extension line attached to.
